The one most tricky and also most common question in an interview, is the reason for changing the job?

Both employer and employee are aware that the reason would mostly be some salary concerns. But the employers expect the employees to pick up the best reply, just to know the convincing capacity of the employee.

Adding to it, another embarrassing question is seeking previous company’s salary proof? The employee can right away, turn down the question. This is because, the companies, once the employer submits the salary proof, try to standardize the margin. For example: if you are earning anything around Rs. 30000 and if you demand Rs. 45000, they try to convince you for Rs. 35000.

But the question is, how to still grab the opportunity, without submitting the salary proofs?

Founder and CEO of Human Workplace, Liz Ryan says, “My past employer made it very clear that my salary information is confidential and I respect that. How shall we proceed?”

He says that if the interviewer is keen to get the salary proof, the employee can say that, producing the salary proof is against your previous company norms. If the interviewer still continues the interview, you are still in the race, otherwise, you can go in search of another opportunity.

“The reason interviewers push for your salary history is that the number in the box on the data collection sheet or the web form makes it easy to screen people in or out. That's all they're looking to do in a first screening conversation,” Ryan says.

On the other hand, a few of the online job applications may contain a mandatory field requiring previous salary details. To avoid this confusion, try reaching out to the company by e-mail or phone. Procure a meeting this way so as to avoid the problem of filling out the document.

Protecting your privacy and also being straight up right from the start of the interview, is the first point to be noted. Just keep in your mind, that you are worth more than the job that needs to verify your monetary value by your earlier experience.
