After the deadly Chennai rains last year, which took away several lives and damaged crores of property, the officials were on high alert and were able to estimate the Vardah cyclone this year, on the before hand.

While the schools and colleges were declared holiday, the concerned officials were active in evacuating the public to safer places. However, as of now, 9 people lost lives and even property damages were witnessed in several parts of Chennai and its neighboring places.

But, due to the high alert of the officials, Chennai came back to normal today, and even electricity services will be provided in all parts of the state shortly. The airport, which was closed yesterday, is back into action today. Around 4000 trees were ripped out due to Vardah cyclone, as per the Tamil Nadu government. All those would be removed in a few days.

Magically, the canopy of late Tami Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s memorial, at Chennai’s Merina Beach was undisturbed, despite the cyclonic winds. Several sand bags were lined up around her grave to prevent flooding. The visitors continued to visit the memorial even today.

Keeping in mind the Chennai floods last year, the high alert of the officials for Vardah cyclone surely deserves a good appreciation. Hope they would perform the rescue operations, with no more loss of lives.
