Rating: 2.75/5

Story:

An accident puts Vidya Sinha/Durga Rani Singh (Vidya Balan) in a coma. It happened while she was still in the shock of her daughter having been kidnapped. Sub-inspector Inderjeet Singh realizes that he knows her personally and also learns that she is in fact Durga Rani Singh, who is wanted in a murder case.

The mystery takes several turns, after incidents written in her diary gets revealed. What happens next and did Sinha come out of her disturbed state? Watch the film to know the answers to the questions.

Analysis:

Not only the story, but also the fantastic dialogues and well built characters brings the liveliness to Kahaani 2. The entire first half is dealt well with some unpredictable and watchable episodes.

It’s the second half, which is the real culprit of Kahaani 2. Too many mysteries in the script confuses the audience. Adding to it, the emotional scenes hurt the film’s pace. But the appreciable thing is, the sensitive subject like sexual abuse is handled subtly and responsibly. Though the subject is serious, there is even situational comedy, in many places.

Performance:

Not to the surprise of many, Vidya Balan came out with yet another promising performance. There is not even a single scene, where she overdoes an emotion and gives exactly, what the character needs. Surprisingly, this time, even Arjun Rampal as sub-inspector Inderjeet Singh, revealed some natural expressions.

Clinton Cerejo’s background score works well and ‘Mehram’ song though, sounds good, fails in catching the dark mood of the film. Ghosh and his cinematographer (Tapan Basu) also deserve credit for once again choosing brilliant locations.

Director Sujoy Ghosh managed to give a good sequel to Kahaani. He has constructed yet another intriguing tale which, although, loses its pace in the second half, still has you holding your breath for its characters.

Finally:

If few dips in the second half are ignored, Kahaani 2 can still make a decent one time watch.
