November 29th is one of the most memorable days in the history of Telangana. It is on this day, Telangana Chief Minister KCR participated in the “Deeksha Diwas” programme in 2009, which helped him gain enough popularity among the public and also one of the main reasons for him to sit on the top chair today.

Demanding Telangana statehood, KCR started an indefinite fast on November 29th 2009, at Rangadhampally X Roads near Siddipet. But, Rosaiah government, which was in power at that time, used brutal police force and arrested KCR, even before he could reach the deeksha venue.

Right after KCR’s arrest at Alaganur, the whole Telangana society erupted. Osmania University students revolted in anger. The inhuman lathicharge on the university students at the behest of Seemandhra police officers infuriated Telangana people. That further boosted the Telangana movement with Jai Telangana slogans, all over the state. All sections of the society marched in solidarity to KCR.

Initially, KCR was first kept in Khamma sub jail. But noticing that his health was deteriorating, he was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad. Day to day health bulletins of KCR, further worsened the position of the Centre. Expecting that the situations would be even worse if KCR’s health deteriorates further, the Centre finally announced Telangana statehood.

Celebrating this day as “KCR Deeksha Diwas”, Telangana Jagruti began the programme at Indira Park today morning, amidst of thousands of the party activists and workers. Telangana Jagruti president Kavita is leading the programme, that will continue till the evening.
