Mystery behind Chaya Someswara Swamy temple in Nalgonda

To the surprise of many, Chaya Someswara Swamy Temple, which has ancient history of the Ikshvaku family, is not known to many.

Located in the outskirts of Nalgonda, Panagal village, in Telangana state, the temple was built during 11th and 12th centuries. ‘Chaya’ is the name given to it, after knowing the mystery of shadow, which one would find tough to identify the shadow of the related pillar.

It is widely believed that there is an everlasting shadow on Lord Shiva's Lingam in the main temple, all day. The temple is an epitome of beauty, arts and spectacle and is engineered by the Kunduru Cholas and is accepted as Thrikutalayam. It testifies the fantastic creative thinking and flair of its architects.

One of the temple's Garbhagudis, in the west and facing east, of the Thrikutalayam always witnesses a shadow and this mystery attracts thousands of visitors to this Temple.
