Despite a good monsoon and high yield, Telangana farmers seemed unhappy with a huge fall in the turmeric prices at turmeric market yard in Nizamabad, which is touted to be South India’s biggest one.

The farmers said that, the middlemen purchased turmeric from them at Rs. 7000 a quintal at the beginning of the season and it later got reduced to Rs. 4,500-Rs. 5,000. Yearly, the turmeric crop is sowed on a large scale with around 22,000-25,000 hectares used for cultivating turmeric. This year, thanks to bountiful rains, nearly 15,000 hectares were used in Nizamabad alone.

Meanwhile, the Market committee officials opined that, the turmeric season just started and gradually the rates will witness a hike.
