Rating: 2.5/5

Story:

Ali (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a failed undergarment seller takes support from his friend Maqsood Ali (Arbaaz Khan) and extorts money for a local goon.

Ali’s neighbor, Kisanlal (Asif Basra) recognizes golf talent in Ali and convinces him to participate in it to earn money. How did Ali managed to make it big in golf is what shows Freaky Ali’s rest.

Analysis:

Ali and Maqsood’s stupid antics form the first half of Freaky Ali taking it on a good note. Though few dialogues are hilarious with good fun, few others go out of board and still they are better than several senseless sex comedies, the Bollywood got accustomed to, in the recent times.

If the makers just made the film on a comic affair, it would have been better, but in the second half, the film reveals some unnecessary detour of double crossing and match fixing. Adding to it, romantic scenes between Nawazuddin and Amy Jackson appear forced and have no significance in the film.

Performance:

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the only survival point of Freaky Ali. His acting levels, especially his comic timing with his identical dead pan expressions creates loud laughs in the theatre. Arbaaz, on the other side is just average and makes least impact on the film.

Seema Biswas literally does a high quality drama, which is more of cinematic. Jackie Shroff’s cameo is wasted.

The background score has no relevance with the scenes running on the screen. Adding to it, even the songs are below average. Editing is completely a huge let down as several scenes can be trimmed off, to make the film appear better. Production values are just ok.

The film lacks proper polishing and that can be felt on the screen. This is surely director Sohail Khan’s mistake. Khan’s direction seems to be very hotch potch and there is little to focus on in any of the scenes.

Finally:

Freaky Ali lacks clarity but is high on some healthy comedy. So it can be on your watch list this week.
