Rating: 2.75/3

Story:

Father (Atul Kulkarni) encourages his daughter Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) right from the childhood to learn martial arts, to be safe from the goons in the society. One day in defending herself from the goons, she lands in juvenile prison and after coming out of it, she stays in a hostel.

On the other side, ACP Rane and his police team spots huge cash and in an attempt to keep it for themselves, they kill a person. While policewoman Rabiya (Konkona Sen Sharma) is dealing this case, Akira gets involved in this issue suddenly. The consequences that follow after Akira’s entry, is what the rest of the film.

Analysis:

Akira script has so much of scope to present socio-political statements. But the makers took the easy road, adding commercial elements. Adding to the too much of drama, the childish dialogues makes Akira sound low. In a scene, Akira compares herself with Jesus Christ, which is the worst part of the film.

The story takes several turns, which makes the audience concentrate well, without even blinking the eyes. However, the whole script only overlooks the characters but does not offer anything emotional.

Performance:

Sonakshi Sinha’s acting is done to death and her acting levels are below average. However, she added bit of shine to the action sequences. No baddie would probably be willing to hit the bubbly baby.

Anurag Kashyap’s performance is on the top notch. His acting levels give a Hollywood flavor to Akira. Konkona Sen Sharma gets a short role and even then she managed to come out with a promising performance.

The background score works more than anything in Akira and coming to director AR Murugadoss, he aimed at making Akira an outright entertainer and chosen to overlook deeper implications that could have been pulled out of this story. He handles his action sequences well, but there is no uniqueness in it.

Finally:

The script is more of cinematic and would go well with the masses. A decent one time watch.
