Story

Navin and Naina, two hyper active kids, becomes a headache to their parents, because of their aggressive behaviors. Vexed of their natures, the parents meet a child psychiatrist (Suriya), who agrees to treat them. How psychiatrist and his wife (Amala Paul) brought change in the kids’ behavior forms the rest of Memu.

Analysis

Though the story is good, it’s the narration that takes a beating. The things get unfolded very slowly in Memu. The entire first half is filled with showcasing on the aggressiveness of the kids and in the last 15 minutes of the interval, things are rushed up.

However Suriya’s role is designed well and the various problems the parents encounter with kids have been elevated well. But as the pace is very slow, several supposed to be interested scenes, appear boring. Especially in the second half, the film almost crawls irritating people in the theatre. Just like the concept, even Memu has several scenes, which are adopted from Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par. Adding to it, the length of the film is high, which can be cut short easily skipping off the songs.

Performance

Suriya on one side is doing the out and out commercial entertainers like Singham, is even concentrating on the feel good films like Memu. He has to be appreciated for accepting a low profile role in Memu, which he nailed with his stupendous performance. Amala Paul even did a settled performance and Bindu Madhavi as irritated mother is good. All the kids in the film have showcased terrific acting skills in the film.

Music of Memu is average and the songs must have been chopped off for the betterment. Production values are pretty good. But it is the screenplay that kills the adorable concept. Director Pandiraj could not execute the concept well, dragging the scenes too long.

Finally

Memu will appeal well with the parents having the irritating kids. The emotions can be connected well with the family audience, but still you can prefer to watch it in TV, rather than spending on the tickets.
