Story

Sultan Ali Khan (Salman) and Arfa (Anushka) aim at doing big in the wrestling. This common thing between them makes them fall in love. Sultan in a short time achieves gold medal to India, but a sudden thing happens later, which negatively impacts on the wrestling career of Sultan. Is that disturbance linked with Arfa? Did Sultan get back into his passion? These questions answer the crux.

Analysis

Sultan’s first half shows the way lead character reaches the sky in his career. The makers managed to show the stress and effort Sultan took in achieving the success. This way, the redemption is a lot more effective and meaningful. The first half has enough entertainment with not many let go scenes.

Coming to the second half, as most of the story revolves in Haryana, the movie will go well with that state people, as even the local dialect is used perfectly. But other states people may find it tough to own the scenes. But the appreciable thing is, Sultan shows few scenes, which Indian cinema has never experienced. The rustic rural settings and the urban arena settings appear realistic and connects well with the audience. On the whole, both first half and second half are decent enough.

Performance

Salman Khan has made it a cake walk to get into the character of Sultan. The way he brought out the emotions in the wrestler character would really be loved by many and is a treat to the super star fans. His Haryana accent and most importantly his fighting scenes deserve loud applause. Anushka Sharma on the other hand, does well.

Surprisingly her wrestling scenes appear realistic. Randeep Hooda has not much to play, but as coach, who makes Sultan redeem himself, he shines. Amit Sadh is decent in his role.

Artur Zurawski’s cinematography is one of the key highlights of Sultan. His work impact can even be felt by the normal audience in the film. Editing is average, as few scenes deserve fine chopping, as it obstructs the flow. The production values are decent, the background score is loud, but the already chartbusters Baby ko Bass Pasand Hai and Jag Ghoomeya, were even shot well.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar managed to come out with the top quality entertainer, showcasing several fresh scenes, with planned narration, impressing Salman fans and even the other Bollywood audience big time.

Finally

‘Sultan’ deserves the same title even in its run and collections. A treat to Salman Khan fans.
