Alternative to Nandi Awards in Telangana
Nandi awards, which are generally offered to the film celebrities annually, nominating them regarding their performances, has been stopped after the Telugu states bifurcated.
Earlier, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had a plan of presenting the awards jointly. But for several unknown reasons, that could not move forward.. Left with no option, the Telangana government is now planning to present the awards separately.
The government officials are planning for a new name in this regard to replace it with Nandi. Regarding this, the government is planning to present the awards this year, to those who made films in Telangana from June 2nd 2014 to December 2015. The movies made in 2016, will get nominated next year and awards will be presented accordingly.
Telangana government is even planning to increase the cash prizes to the winners. Here are the other amendments made to the awards by the Telangana government.
- Award in the name of Kantha Rao to the Telangana popular film celebrity.
- Award in the name of Paidi Raju to the celebrity popular at the national level.
- Prabhakar Reddy award to the best family movie.
- Dasaradhi award to the best lyricist.
- Chakri award to the best music director.
The Telugu film industry is in such a situation that it is tough to divide between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The majority of the films are made in Hyderabad and the casting in it would be mostly from Andhra. So, it should be seen, how the Telangana government divides the celebrities and allocate awards to the deserved ones.
