According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), the economic gap between men and women would take 170 years to close, after progress towards parity between the sexes suffered "a dramatic slowdown".

Though the women in the present world are exploring every possible way to go high in their career, in about 95 countries, women still earn less in exchange for longer hours compared to men and its even tougher for them to have a senior or a managerial post. WEF tracked the disparities between the genders, since 2006, in 4 areas- education, health, economic opportunity and political empowerment.

According to WEF, the progress is found reverse only in Economics. “Progress towards parity in the key economic pillar has slowed dramatically with the gap - which stands at 59 percent - now larger than at any point since 2008,” WEF said in a statement.

Saadia Zahidi, the report author, explained that the 170-year projection was based on data from the past 11 years played forward, assuming that the trends are replicated year after year, with no major changes.
