Bathukamma festival that represents the Telangana culture and traditions got it deserved recognition only after Telangana State was created. Ever since, the celebrations held every year become significant.
Telangana government lead by K Chandrasekhar Reddy has come up with a noble idea to celebrate this occasion. It placed order for nearly one crore Bathukamma sarees with state handloom and power loom workers. While it generated work and huge income for them, the sarees will be distributed to the poor women in the state between the age group of 18-40 years irrespective of caste and creed.
The government has sanctioned a budget of around Rs.200 crores for this purpose. The sarees are being woven by weavers of Sircilla and in other places of the state.
According to latest reports, more than 75 percent of the order has reached the districts headquarters during last few days and balance will be reaching within next week.
Sircilla weavers are extremely happy with the government’s decision as it bailed them out of their miseries and provides livelihood. Since, those sarees will be distributed to the women of the state, they are quite happy to showcase their skills. They have created plenty of designs in very attractive colors.
Women aged above 40 will be given plain bordered sarees and others with many attractive colors and designs. Recently, CM KCR has finalized the dates for Bathukamma sarees distribution. They will be distributed through the ration shops under the public distribution system from September 18 to 20th.
In case if any woman beneficiary can't come to take these sarees, any of her family members can collect them. Aadhar card or Voter ID or any other valid ID is mandatory to claim this gift from Telangana state government.
CMKCR appealed the MLAs, MPs and other public representatives to make the program a huge success.
