India reacts to Donald Trump-Nawaz Sharif phone call

December 01, 2016

Referring to the supportive statements of the newly elected US president Donald Trump towards Pakistan, the Indian government went severely against it.

“We have seen the reports of the conversation (between Trump and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif) that were one-sided and claimed the President-elect promised to help Pakistan with all outstanding issues. We look forward to the President-elect helping Pakistan address the most outstanding of its outstanding issues - terrorism," said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

According to the Pakistan statement, Trump had heaped praise on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during a telephone conversation. Trump purportedly told Sharif that he feels like he's "talking to a person I have known for long" and that Pakistanis "are one of the most intelligent people."

Apparently, Trump even urged Sharif to “ feel free” to call him at “any time, even before 20th January, that is before I assume my office.”

“On being invited to visit Pakistan by the Prime Minister, Mr. Trump said that he would love to come to a fantastic country, fantastic place of fantastic people,” the press release by Pakistan's Press Information Department said.

“Please convey to the Pakistani people that they are amazing and all Pakistanis I have known are exceptional people”, said Trump according to the Pakistan government press release.
