1 killed and over 100 injured in a horrifying train crash in Hoboken, New Jersey at 08:45 a.m. EDT on Thursday.

The commuter train plowed into a station, which smashed the train's front through the track stop at high speed and into the Hoboken terminal, toppling support columns and creating chaos at one of the busiest transit hubs in over there.

A woman waiting on the platform was killed and 108 others were severely injured, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said.

"The train's engineer, or driver, was seriously injured and in a hospital, and was cooperating fully with investigators. We have no indication that this is anything other than a tragic accident but ... we're going to let the law enforcement professionals pursue the facts," Chrstie said, along with his New York counterpart Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo said that he was unaware of the reason behind overspeed of the reason and doubted technical failure if any.

Hundreds of emergency workers performed the rescue operations, carrying the injured on stretchers to ambulances waiting outside. A few of the injured were in critical condition, officials at two hospitals said.

Meanwhile, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that the Obama administration was not aware of any evidence linking the crash to terrorism.

Earlier on May 2011, at Hoboken station, a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey crashed, in which 30 were injured, when it hit a bumping post at the end of the track. An investigation revealed that the excessive speed was the main cause of the accident.

Even the latest crash is being investigated looking out for the similarities with the earlier accident, as well as at positive train control, or PTC, the system designed to halt a train if the engineer misses a stop signal.
