If the reports are to be believed, the Indian government has finalized a plan to slash disability-related pensions for soldiers rendered out of service from battle wounds by as much as 70 per cent.
The report further revealed that, a day after India carried out surgical strikes against Pakistan, India's Defence Ministry issued a notification, announcing the cuts in disability pensions for soldiers across different ranks from junior to senior army officers, including soldiers who might have suffered "severe" injuries during battle.
According to the fresh rules, a young soldier who suffered “100% disability”, would witness a 40% cut in pension (Rs. 45200 to Rs. 27200). Its Rs. 70000/month cut for senior army officers and naib subedars with over 26 years of service, would see a Rs. 40,000 a month cut.
Rs. 27,000 for officers
Rs. 17,000 for junior commissioned officers
Rs. 12,000 for other ranks.
The new rules are making a soldier with 5 years of service earning a monthly Rs. 30,400 witness 60% cut in disability pension. A major with 10 years of service earning Rs. 98,300/month, would see a disability pension cut by as much as 72%.
The report further stated that, the disability pension cuts extend beyond battle injuries to include medical disabilities caused during army training and military service.
"Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare" has even released a draft notification.

The Indian army is being appreciated by the entire country for successfully performing surgical strikes against Pakistan. Several biggies from all the corners are appreciated Indian army. At this point of time, the government is supposed to stand as a strong support to the army and assure them with proper benefits. But it’s shameful to know that, the Indian government is cutting down the disability pensions without any mercy.
