Modifying its last week’s order regarding Cauvery water dispute, Supreme Court said that, Karnataka has to share less water with Tamil Nadu for 5 more days.  

Adding to it, the court even severely went against Karnataka for allegedly using people’s protests to argue the case. “Citizens cannot become a law unto themselves. When a court passes an order, it is the duty of citizens to obey it... It is the obligation of the executive to see that it is complied with in letter and spirit,” SC's order said.

Just after the court’s judgment was out, huge level of violence erupted on the Bengaluru streets, where the protesters burnt vehicles and damaged public property like the shops and buildings.

Karnataka stated that, releasing 15000 cusecs of water daily for another 5 days, as the court had ordered on September 5 that it has hardly enough water for farming or even drinking after poor rain. It also argued today that Tamil Nadu's claims of "agony" are false.

Currently, the court has asked Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water till September 20th and refused to make any more changes after Karnataka argued that it would end up giving more water than it had originally been asked to.
