Many surprises and many shocks all together summed up the first half of 2016, making one fall into dilemma, as to what type of films are audience watching.
The movies which are expected to do magic with the collections fell flat, turning out as the butt of the jokes at the box office and some low budget films and outdated heroes films did big.
Starting with Ram’s Nenu Sailaja, which has welcomed the New Year, releasing on January 1st, did well turning out to be a decent hit to Ram, who suffered big time for a proper hit and finally threw himself into the safe zone.
‘Hit’ which has become an out of question to Ram Gopal Varma, has witnessed it this year, with his Killing Veerappan, which is another surprise to the audience. Most of the reviews declared the film to be a super hit and said RGV is back with a bang.
Sankranthi season is one big season, the producers consider and release their movies and unlike any year in the past, the four movies- Soggade Chinni Nayana, Express Raja, Nannaku Prematho and Dictator, did well at the box office.
Krishna Gadi Veera Prema Gadha, released on February 5th, has opened the market to Nani, who till then concentrated only on the multiplex audience.
Kshanam which was released with the least expectations surprisingly did well in all the centres and Adivi Sesh, who is trying out for a right identity, has finally made it up with this low budget suspense entertainer.
Dasarath, an out and out class director, opted an out and out C centre hero Manchu Manoj for Shourya, which failed to make any impact and thus remained as another shock to the film industry, as to what is the reason behind the failure.
Oopiri is one such film which has the positive vibrations right from the announcement of Nagarjuna and Karthi’s combination. The success of this film has brought new hopes to the makers, to experiment on the tricky subjects, landing the multi-starrers into it.
Then comes summer season, which has given shock of life to the film makers, witnessing the most anticipated movies, Sardaar Gabbar Singh, Brahmotsavam fall flat, and turning out as the disasters and with a moderate hit like Sarrainodu.
Adding to it, the films with not many expectations like Raja Cheyyi Vesthe, Supreme, Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam witnessed the success, followed by A..Aa and Gentleman successes in June.
The one hint, audience gave to the makers in the last six months is, irrespective of the stars in the film, it is only the script and the way it is executed, that drives one towards the theaters. The movie lovers are fed up with the regular mass masala entertainers and are in no mood of encouraging the regular format films.
That might be the reason of why even the huge stars like Balakrishna, Prabhas, Nagarjuna are now giving importance to the variety subjects like Gauthamiputra Sathakarni, Baahubali, Om Namo Venkateshaaya respectively. If these films witness success, then even the rest other big heroes are expected to do the same and only such initiatives can save the film industry from facing the bad fortune.
