As feared, violence erupted in Panchakula city in Haryana after the special CBI Court convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case. Despite heavy armed forces deployment and imposing section 144 in the city, thousands of followers of Gurmeet, who thronged into the city have turned it into a battle ground protesting his conviction.

At least 17 are feared to be killed and more than 200 is injured in the arson. Soon after the court verdict is out, Gurmeet followers turned violent and set fire to Malout and Balluanna railway stations. They also set fire to a petrol pump and media vehicles in the city.

Violence also spread to New Delhi where mobs set fire to state two transport buses and two railway coaches parked at Anand Vihar Railway Statation. They set ablaze media vehicles, public and private vehicles in many places in Panchakula city.    

Violence also spread to Rajasthan. Gurmeet supporters set ablaze an electrical sub-station office and a vehicle parked in the premises in Sri Ganga Nagar.  Hence, New Delhi, Punjab and Haryana states are put on high alert and boarders were sealed with paramilitary forces. Curfew imposed in several areas in the two states and also in some places in north Delhi. Punjab and Haryana governments asked the Centre for additional security forces to prevent any further violence.

Punjab and Haryana combined High Court directed both governments to attach the assets of Dera Sacha Sauda to recover the losses occurred with this violance. It asks both governments to handle the mobs with firm hand taking help of paramilitary forces.      

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been convicted by the special CBI court in Panchakula, Haryana in two rape cases. The court declared he is guilty and punishment for it will be announced on August 28th. Hence, there may be chances for further violence in much larger scale than the present ones.
