It seems Singareni employees’ unions swings into action keeping in view of union elections slated for October 5th. 

Recently, Labor Department has issued notification for the union elections. According to it, nominations can be filed from September 14th to 16th. Last date for nominations withdrawal is September 19th and the elections will be held on October 5th.  Therefore, all unions in Singareni will obviously try to impress the workers to bag their votes. AITUC is first to make such move. AITUC deputy general secretary N Venkateswara Rao today submits memorandums to the managers OC 2, 4 and Kondapur mines. AITUC demands the Singareni management to share 30% of its profits with workers. He said because of the hard efforts of workers Singareni produced 60 million tons of coal and earned Rs. 1,066.13 crores profits during 2015-16.  

If so, when it produced 62 million tons in 2016-17, the profits should be much higher than the previous year. He asked how Singareni management has declared that it earned only Rs.395.38 crores profits this year. 

Hence, INTUC demands the management to reveal the actual figure of profits of 2016-17 and share 30% of it with workers instead of trying to fool the workers.

Singareni management may have its own reasons for that figure, but certainly this point raised by INTUC will help it to draw the attention of Singareni workers. Probably, rest of the unions may also jump into action with similar ideas and demands very soon. However, the key to win these elections may be with Telangana Boggu Ghani Karimika Sangham (TGBKS) affiliated to the ruling TRS party. It may play its cards in the last minute after all unions play their part.
