'Homestay scheme' is the new project introduced by the Telangana government, engaging the local families into it, with the intention of making the foreign tourists, feel like home in the state.
Upon the recommendation of the Union tourism ministry to states, the Telangana government has constituted a committee, for which it has allocated Rs. 8 lakhs. The main idea behind launching this scheme, is to provide both domestic and foreign tourists, the state culture and tradition.
Five or above rooms in the house, is the minimum requirement for a family to participate in the scheme. The applicants should submit details like names of all the family members, their occupations, educational qualifications, vehicles (if any), number of bedrooms and attached bathrooms and finally, the expected charges.
"It will be up to the house owners or family to decide how much they will charge. If they have good facilities they can charge accordingly. But there will be proper regulation," an official of the state tourism department said, adding that it is open to all the districts of Telangana, along with Hyderabad.
