When the Republic day parade is touted to be celebrated by all sections of the society, unfortunately the religious disparities are observed in Telangana.
In the Republic Day celebrations held at the Jagtial fort, about 50 Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists have joined the ceremonial parade, shouting Jai Sriram. Collector A. Sharath took the ‘salute’ from the VHP group.
Muslim youth, who couldn't take this, took out green flags and surged forward to join the parade. Local Congress legislator T. Jeevan Reddy pacified the Muslim youth.
Turning the situation uglier, Collector Sharat in his speech, said that, he would be “ever grateful” to Telangana Chief Minister KCR and would “touch his feet for allowing him to participate in the RD celebrations.”
Putting a step forward, another IAS official and Metpally sub-collector Musharaf Ali was seen sitting at the feet of Nizamabad MP Kavitha while talking to her at the VVIP gallery.
Going severely against the VHP workers, Congress MLA Jeevan Reddy questioned the collector and the superintendent of police on how the Hindu group workers were allowed to take part in the parade. He asked whether Jagtial “was part of a secular country.”
When the occasion of national and all Indians are supposed to be treated equally, with the least concern to any sorts of discrimination, the kind of environment, Jagtial witnessed, is surely a huge shame factor.
