Complaining that the farmers are facing severe drought issues, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam and Tamil Nadu Traders Federation asked their members not to sell Pepsi and Coca-Cola brand products.
There have been an unprecedented number of farmer deaths and suicides in this harvest season. During the Jallikattu agitation at Marina beach, the idea to boycott the drinks from the two multinationals, has been generated.
“We have more than 15 lakh members in our organization. We have told all our members not to sell Pepsi or Coca-Cola products,” said Vikram Raja, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam President.
If everything goes well, all the products from Pepsi and Coca-Cola will not be allowed from 1st of March in Tamil Nadu.
While the two MNCs have a wider market in the country, if the same protest idea moves to other states, it would be a severe jolt on part of the two MNCs.
