With the maximum declared income of Rs. 145 crores, TDP is among the top 5 regional parties in the country. Among the 145 crores, Rs. 45 crores is from the unknown sources.
But the situation is completely different with TRS and YSRCP, whose incomes are just Rs 35.92 crores and Rs 23.47 crores respectively. The leading party of Telangana, though has the highest percentage of income from unknown sources in the Telugu states - Rs 25.21 crores.
After TDP and TRS came to power in 2014 elections, donations to both the parties have increased by several times.
According to the Association of Democratic Rights, "Currently, political parties are not required to reveal the name of individuals or organizations giving less than Rs 20,000. As a result, over two-thirds of the funds cannot be traced and are from ‘unknown’ sources. This becomes very relevant in light of recent events when demonetization was announced so as to weed out black money from the society. While the national political parties were brought under the RTI Act by the CIC ruling in June 2013, they have still not complied with the decision.”
ADR further said that, after analyzing the 11-year record of political parties, it is revealed that, over 70% of the income of all parties in the country together is from unknown sources.
