While the metro rail project is still on its way to hit the public in Hyderabad and there is no certainty about it, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to bring a tramway service, which would be a whole new mode of public transport.
Apart from providing the general public, a new mode of transport, the GHMC is also aiming to attract the tourists with this tramway, in the historic heritage spots including Charminar, Quli Qutb Shahi tombs and Golconda Fort.
But the officials are in a dilemma, thinking on how feasible the project would be and how acquisition of land for the project would be done, while the ongoing metro rail project is already occupying most of the public places.
But, giving a hope, City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said that, Trams can be operated in small and narrow roads also and don't need any wide operations, that disturbs the flow of traffic.
So it should be seen, whether the project moves forward. If so, it would really be a great boost for both tourism and also the general public, who is finding tough to travel in the crowded buses regularly.
