Going against the overweight crew, the Air India has decided to shift all such cabin crew members to ground jobs.
Reportedly, these crew members had a higher than the permitted body mass index (BMI). Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had asked its crew members to lose weight in the given deadline.
But as few couldn't do it, they were temporarily (for six months) relegated to ground jobs. If they fail to lose the weight in the stipulated time, they will be assigned ground duty permanently. A ground job means loss of flying allowance of around Rs 40,000 a month.
According to DGCA guidelines, Cabin crew's ideal BMI is 18-25 for male and 18-22 for female. Those who got demoted recently had BMI over 30.
