Jail term for minor drivers
Going strictly against the minors who take the steering into hands, the Hyderabad traffic police is planning to bring jail terms, instead of the existing Rs. 1000 penalty. Regarding this, the officials have forwarded a proposal to the court.
According to the proposal, the minimum and maximum jail term for under-aged drivers (minors) may be one day and three months respectively. Adding to it, the offence will also be shared on the violators Aadhaar card and this could create passport issues in the future. Not only the child, but even the owner of the vehicle driven by a minor would also face jail term.
"We received a positive response from the MSJ. We are hopeful of implementing the enhanced punishment with jail term after a month,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) AV Ranganath said.
