The Telangana state government as a tribute to the social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, has decided to name the residential schools of BCs in the state after him.

Telangana Chief Minister KCR, who made an announcement in regard to this in the assembly, also said, “We have already started the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Backward Classes Welfare Residential Schools Society, and by the next academic year, BC Residential Schools will be started in all the 119 Assembly segments. Our target is to have 76,160 students enrolled in these schools.”

KCR opined that, it is TRS government that took this step and no other state couldn’t even think of it, since independence. He further stated that, the residential schools bring in a notable change in the lives of students for their better future. 

“In the BC Residential Schools, English will be the medium of education from 5th standard to Intermediate. The government will be spending Rs 1.25 lakh on every student to ensure proper infrastructure, nutritious food, books and uniforms. The quality of education in these residential schools will be on par with education being imparted in corporate schools where children of the rich study,” KCR said.
