Telangana Chief Minister KCR, in a first of its kind initiative, has announced to set up an “Army Welfare Fund” for the welfare of Armed Forces personnel, martyred, retired and serving.
Making the decision official, KCR said that he along with his cabinet ministers would contribute Rs 25,000 each per year, while lawmakers from the State would contribute Rs 10,000 each per year towards setting up of the Rs 80 crore “Army Welfare Fund”.
All ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs have agreed to contribute to the fund, KCR said, adding that, even the government employees have decided to contribute 1 day’s wages towards the fund.
Adding to it, KCR also announced a massive increase in cash rewards to the Army personnel from the state, who win Gallantry Medals. Army personnel from Telangana winning Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra will get Rs 2.25 crores (Punjab pays the highest at Rs 2 crores), Mahavir Chakra and Kirti Chakra Rs 1.25 crores (Punjab Rs 1 crores).
TS CM said that it is the duty of every citizen to ensure the welfare of Army personnel and their families, and should consider it as an act of gratitude towards the brave soldiers.
