Upon receiving several complaints that Garbage trucks are not visiting several places across Hyderabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is now planning to leverage Global Position System (GPS) to track nearly 750 trucks, which are involved in garbage collection and disposal in the city.

Adding to it, the GHMC will also install Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) tags for its 4,500-odd dumper bins in city on rental basis. It would seek private companies support for the necessary equipment to take up GPS project.

According to the authorities, the current manual garbage collection and disposal practices have many loopholes and workers tend to take undue advantage of the system. The corporation is using trucks, auto trolleys and workers for collection and disposal of waste generated in all the 30 circles in its limits.

But, there is no such mechanism which checks whether a vehicle visited a route or a point for lifting garbage. Adding to it, the officials are unable to properly monitor the lifting of waste from a particular dumper bin and are clueless whether the collected waste is dumped at the dump yard. So, to fix several issues like this, GHMC is seeking the assistance of private companies.
