Citing Karnataka’s reluctance to share water with Tamil Nadu, the Panneer Selvam's government has demanded a compensation of Rs. 2480 crores from Karnataka.

The Supreme Court today, asked both the state governments to file a list of witnesses within a week, and submit the details of witnesses affidavit within 4 weeks for it to take an informed decision on the water sharing dispute.   

Last week, the apex court had directed Karnataka to continue releasing 2000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu daily, till it rules on the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) order. Adding to it, the court also said that it will take up hearings daily, on the appeals filed by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala against the 2007 award of the tribunal on water sharing issue.

Tamil Nadu, due to the water shortage even wrote a letter last week to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, seeking to ensure the immediate release of Krishna water.
