As the deadline to exchange the old notes has come to an end by yesterday, the Reserve Bank of India immediately raised the withdrawal limits from the ATMs.
Till yesterday, due to the severe cash crunch across the country, the apex bank only allowed to withdraw Rs. 2000 per day from the ATMs. But from today, the limit has been raised to Rs. 4500.
When Rs. 2000 was the limit, heavy queues were witnessed outside the ATMs. But as the limit is increased, it is evident that more number of Rs. 500 and Rs. 100 notes will be available and it thus decreases the queues.
Meanwhile, the limit of Rs. 4000 per day and Rs. 24000 per week, is still the same at the banks, as the excessive currency is yet to reach the banks.
