Ms Sasikala Natarajan, the closest friend of Tamil Nadu’s ex-Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, is announced as the new AIADMK party chief. She will be handed over the leadership responsibilities on January 2nd.

Responding to this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said, “Like we saw MGR (MG Ramachandran) in Jayalalithaa, we see Jayalalithaa in Sasikala.”

During the reign of Jayalalithaa, the lakhs of her followers and fans used to call her as Amma. As Ms Sasikala is mostly seen beside Amma, she had been tagged as Chinnamma.    

Though Ms Sasikala was kept away from the party and government functioning by Ms Jayalalithaa, her considerable influence over her decisions was well known. She has played a pivotal role in political developments since her death. Adding to it, Chinnamma's posters alongside of Ms Jayalalithaa were a big sign that AIADMK is eager to embrace their Amma’s closest friend as her successor.
