Separatist leader Masarat Alam to release
After spending six years in jail, the separatist leader Masarath Alam is going to be released.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court ordered the state government for an immediate release of Alam, the reports say.
Alam is the chairman of the Muslim League – which is a constituent of the SAS Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference. In 2010, he was arrested under sections of the Public Safety Act on charges of having organized violent anti-India protests.
The protest began, when three civilians were killed by the Indian army, in an alleged encounter near India’s border with Pakistan. In 2015, Alam was once released and was arrested again after a month, for allegedly unfurling a Pakistani flag at a rally in Srinagar.
According to the order of the district magistrate, any person can be detained only up to 2 years, under the Public Safety act.
