In a stampede took place near the Sabarimala temple in Kerala, at least 25 devotees, out of which 17 from Andhra Pradesh were injured. Among 17 Ayyappa devotees from AP, the condition of two devotees from Gorantla village, Ananthapur, is critical.
As the idol was adorned with 'Thanga Angi' jewels, the rush was heavier than normal, during evening puja. From today, the temple shuts down and will reopen on 30th of December for the `Makara Vellukku' festival.
Speaking about the stampede, information minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that he urged the Kerala government to provide transport to stranded pilgrims. He further added that the pilgrims called families in Ananthapur to say that several people were injured. Arrangements at Malikappuram Devi temple were inadequate.
