After 19 years, Indian Railways finally increased the compensation for the train accident victims. The latest decision has been taken after the dreadful train accident near Kanpur last month.
From January 1st 2017, the Ministry of Railways will pay double the compensation paid so far, for the death or injury to a passenger in rail accidents.
Earlier it used to pay Rs. 4 lakhs for an injured or dead victim. Now doubling it, the Railways announced to pay Rs. 8 lakhs. The official statement from the Railways also announced that, a person facing a serious amputation, loss of eye-sight and suffering absolute deafness will also get a compensation of Rs 8 lakhs instead of Rs 4 lakhs.
