The government is now aiming at the hotels and restaurants in the country, that are levying extra charges in the name of tips and service charges.
According to the latest government reports, only if the customer is happy with the services provided in hotels and restaurants, he/she with no compulsion, can pay the service charge or can even stay back from paying the same. If the hotels or restaurants decide to include the service charge in the bill itself, it should be made with the prior consent of the customers.
However, the bill already includes 12.5% VAT and 6% tax. So there is no separate need of paying the service charge. At several places, restaurants are charging about 10% of the bill in the name of tip. To save the customers from this situation, the Centre has decided to spread the awareness among the public.
