The Supreme Court suggested the Centre to provide harsher punishments for rash and negligent driving and regarding this, it asked to amend the rules.
The apex court stressed that there has to be fear of law among people, who are indulged in reckless driving at the cost of the lives of other people. The court, earlier expressed concern over the loss of nearly 400 lives every day and opined that, 2 years jail for the offence is not enough.
Adding to it, the top court also said that, it has asked the legislature twice earlier, to amend the current provisions under the law, which is usually applied in cases of hurt caused due to rash driving. During the hearing, it had remarked the given section as “completely inadequate.”
