Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is no more. The official announcement was made by Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, releasing a press note.

Fought with the death over 2 months, Jayalalitha finally had to give up today, shocking all her fans and followers in Tamil Nadu. Thousands of fans gathered at the hospital and tried to destroy the furniture over there. The police and other security forces are trying to control the anger of the public.

Born on 24 February 1948 at Melukote, in Pandavapura taluka, Mandya district, Karnataka, Jayalalitha learnt various forms of classical dance like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Manipuri and Kathak.

She made her acting debut in 1961, through a Kannada language film Sri Shaila Mahathme and from there, went on to play several roles in later films and earned a screen credit called Kalai Selvi.

Coming to her political career, in 1982, she joined AIADMK, founded by Ramachandran, whom Jaya considers as instrumental in introducing her to politics. In 1991, she was elected as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time. She became the first female and the youngest, CM of Tamil Nadu, to serve a full term (24 June 1991 to 12 May 1996). 

Giving high preference to the women, her government was the first one to introduce the women police stations, and also separate women establishments like libraries, stores, banks and co-operative elections. She also aimed at eliminating poverty and had special concern towards the poor.  

After serving four terms as the CM of Tamil Nadu, she again got into power in the 2016 elections and not even serving a year in the five year term, a news like this, is saddening many.
