National Anthem mandatory in cinema halls- Supreme Court
Supreme Court directed that, from now on, the national anthem must be played in the theaters before the movie screenings.
The court also added that the audience in the theatre is required to stand when the anthem is played and the national flag should be screened. Reacting to a petition, where the national anthem was allegedly misused, the apex court also ruled that it should not be commercially exploited or dramatized.
“When the national anthem is played, it is imperative for everyone to show honor and respect It would instill a sense of committed patriotism and nationalism,” it said.
In the 1960s, it was mandatory to play the national anthem in the cinema halls, but the practice faded away by the 1990s.
