The demonetization effect was even felt in the several hospitals in Hyderabad. Especially, small and medium sized private hospitals in the city have witnessed a sharp decline in both out patient (OPs) and elective surgeries by 50% and 60% respectively.
According to the sources, most of the hospitals are now taking up only emergency cases as treatment for them cannot be postponed.
"Even in emergency cases, patients' attendants face hassles if the private hospital refuses to take old notes and they cannot make online money transfer," said Dr Sanjeev Singh Yadav, city president of the Indian Medical Association.
Adding to it, the situation is even worse in the rural sector private hospitals outside Hyderabad. 80%drop in both elective and OP services is observed in these hospitals. "Since most of them get patients who pay in cash, almost all rural sector based private hospitals have now stopped getting elective cases like hysterectomy, thyroid, biopsies and lumpectomy," said Dr T Narasinga Reddy, president, Telangana IMA.
