Two terrorists killed in an encounter in Bandipora in Jammu and Kashmir, were found having Rs. 2000 notes. According to the police, the terrorists had Rs. 15000 in cash, including two notes of the new Rs. 2,000.
The security forces were involved in the gunfight that lasted for hours before the death of the terrorists. Both are suspected to be from the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, the police say.
It is just two weeks, banks started dispensing Rs. 2000 notes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said terror attacks, including those facilitated by Pakistan, often involve counterfeit Rs. 500 notes.
While even over half of the population in the country did not even see the new currency note, terrorists that too in the war place like Kashmir, carrying such notes is now worrying the officials.
