Earlier, when the government said that it would accept the old notes for paying the utility bills only until November 14th midnight, thousands around the country rushed to e-seva and concerned offices to pay the bills. This created chaos in few places.
Over Rs. 100 crores has been collected in less than two days. So keeping in mind the huge response, the government has now extended the date to 24th of this month. Household utility bills, fuel, taxes and fees, as well as purchases from co-operative stores can be made till November 24th.
It is known that, the government had allowed the use of old currency at government hospitals, railway ticketing, public transport, airline ticketing at airports, milk booths, crematoria/burial grounds and petrol pumps.
Not stopping there, the list later was expanded to metro rail tickets, toll tax on highways, purchase of medicines on doctor prescription, LPG gas cylinders, railway catering, electricity and water bills and ASI monument entry tickets.
