The central government is now planning to impose high service tax on online downloads from any foreign websites.
Reportedly, 15% service tax will be levied on several downloads like music, e-book and all of them will be added to the customer's bill. The central board of exchange & customs has made his announcement in view of growing penchant for overseas content in India.
Just like any other regular goods, 15% tax will be collected on services such as internet advertising, providing cloud services, e-books, movies, music, videos, software downloads and other intangibles via telecommunication networks or internet; providing data or information in electronic format via a computer network, online supply of digital content, digital data storage and also online gaming.
