After the central government announced that, old notes would be accepted to pay utility bills and essential services till Monday, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) collected Rs 54.70 crores in property tax within 24 hours.

Reportedly, GHMC saw a shortage of funds all these years, but after the government's announcement, it was shocked to see, people lining up outside Mee Seva and E-seva centres in Hyderabad, to pay property tax that was due for years in some cases.

Reportedly, all civic bodies, from the GHMC, to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMW&SB) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), made record collections of over Rs.100 crores.

“If the power bills are huge and paid in cash, details,  including the name of consumer, address and amount paid would be submitted to the Income Tax department,” an official said. The deadline of paying the utility bills has been extended from November 11th to 14th.
