Banks at the nationwide were opened this morning, only to witness the heavy crowds right from the start of the day.

Though the Centre gave December 30th as the deadline to exchange Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes, large number of public, turned to the banks on the first day itself. 

The government has assured the public of making all the necessary arrangements for the smooth exchange of currency at all the bank branches and post offices, but the measures taken are not helping enough.

Reportedly, the government instructed the commercial, rural and cooperative banks to exchange the old currency with new ones as early as possible. On the other side, only a few people were being allowed inside the bank at a time in order not to suffocate the staff. So most of the works like issuing deposit and withdrawal slips, note exchanging slips, verifying documents etc were made outside the banks.

Adding to it, to prevent unfortunate situations, if any, heavy police security has also been deployed at most of the banks and post offices. Even the security would help the high class customers who are expected to visit banks and post offices, carrying huge amounts of money.  

Keeping in mind the huge crowd, the banks would work for the extra hours and even would remain open this Saturday and Sunday. Adding to it, even the retired employees are recalled, to make the work run smoother and quicker.
