Protesting against the killing of 31 Maoists in gun battles on Andhra-Odisha border, Maoists called for the bundh in five states. The Telugu states are on high alert, besides initiating unprecedented security arrangements.
Along with Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the bundh is even called in Naxalite infested states of Odisha, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh. Following a tip off that the Maoists were holding a secret plenary session, it is known that, in Andhra-Odisha Border forest area, there was a fire exchange between the Maoists and the police force of AP and Odisha.
Ramakrishna alias RK, top leader of the Maoists, for whom the police have been desperately hunting for many years, reportedly escaped with injuries in the recent firing. Worried over this, speculating that RK might be eliminated by the police, the civil liberties organizations besides RK’s wife Sirisha have moved to Hyderabad High Court, pleading that he be produced before the court.
So the bundh called now is only being directed to their demand to release their leader, but nothing else, the analysts say.
