Harish Rao wants national project status for Kaleshwaram
With the intention of masking the special status issue, it is known that, the Centre declared national project status to Polavaram in AP. Eyeing on this, now the Telangana government is demanding to give a similar treatment for Kaleshwaram irrigation project too.
Irrigation minister Harish Rao voiced this demand, with the support of Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, who said that the state unit of BJP would soon meet Prime Minister in this regard.
The Kaleshwaram project is one of the two components of the redesigned Pranahita-Chevella project. It seeks to create an irrigation potential of 18.2 lakh acres in addition to stabilizing another 11.8 lakh acres of existing ayacut. Adding to it, it even proposes to meeting 30 tmc ft drinking water needs of Hyderabad, 10 tmc ft to villages en route and 16 tmc ft for industrial needs.
