The Sangareddy District Central Jail in Medak district, built by the Nizams in 1796, has been converted into a museum in the recent June. Deputy SP of the jail, M Lakshmi Narasimha, who is acting as the in-charge of the jail museum has took out a unique idea called “Feel The Jail”.

Speaking about this, he said, “It is a historic jail; more than 200 years old heritage building and we thought that the museum can be promoted among tourists to give then a feeling of prisoner. The fee is Rs. 500 per day.”

The visitor will be treated like a real prisoner like he will be given a prisoner uniform, a soap that is made in jail, night duty officer’s visit to check on him.

Adding further, the deputy also said that, the guest prisoner will be woken up at 5 am by two guards and would be allowed to clean his cell and ablutions. Later, he will be given tea at 6.30am and breakfast-Idli at 7.30am. At around 1.30 and 11am, meal of rice, dal and sambar and dinner at 5pm will have curry, rice and curd.

The prisoner, during the day time, will be told to clean and also plant some saplings. By 6pm, he will be locked up. As the jail is 200 year old one, it appears bit scary. So, two of the guards will be present in the guard’s room to give company to the ‘prisoner’.
