5 Telangana towns declared open defecation free
10 towns- five each in Telangana and Maharashtra were declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by the urban development ministry.
From Telangana - Siddipet, Shadnaga, Suryapet, Achampet and Huzurnagar and from Maharashtra- Kagal, Panchgani, Vengurla, Murgud and Panhala, were opted by the ministry, which began the process of third party verification under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
Out of the ODF claims of 11 towns, the Quality council of India has certified 10 of them as per the protocol evolved for such certification. Reportedly, a total of 974 cities and towns will eliminate Open Defecation by next year.
